8/28/2023 – Drought Worsening

We will likely see some rain in the next 24 to 26 hours, then turn dry again! The drought remains and seems to worsen before we can improve it.
Here is the 7-day forecast for rain in the region. Yes, Loudoun is the driest look in the area. This is not good for planting grass (which is usually good in fall), and local water concerns will rise. It is time to consider water conservation until we get some good rains.
The long-range shows a return to above-normal temperatures (90s) and below-normal precipitation.
Once we get some stronger cool fronts and contrasting systems this fall, I expect some good rain totals, but we are again on the cusp of showing severe drought in some locations for the next few weeks.
I've attached the 7-day precipitation prediction by the Weather Prediction Center. This is more generous than some of the forecast models.

Loudoun County Weather Outlook for Sunday, August 27, 2023

It is much cooler with some showers in the next few days. We really need rain, especially in western Loudoun. This week turns super nice from Wednesday through Saturday!

I will be watching and praying for those who will be in the path of the new Tropical Storm, likely to be Hurricane, Idalia in the Gulf. We will probably just get some slight impacts from this storm with nice skies (sinking air around tropical systems usually clear skies well beyond the center) and some breezes, but the storm will likely go off the Southeastern coast.

We will warm up some in the long-range and, unfortunately, it still looks drier than usual.

Loudoun County Weather Outlook for Monday, June 12, 2023

6/12/2023 – Yes, when we are dry, it is very hard to break the pattern. The flow this Spring/Early Summer has not been the best for bringing moisture into the region. That makes it great for keeping the air comfortable, but it also means that approaching storms have not had as much precipitation. Today, things look drier than they did at one time. If we do not get thunderstorms, the most rain we could squeeze out could be a quarter of an inch to MAYBE a half inch. Let's hope we get some storms as the ground and vegetation remains very dry. My yard is looking like hay!
Highs will be in the 70s today with some showers and, hopefully, a thunderstorm. There is a chance that a storm if it occurs, could be severe, especially if you live east of Rt 15. There are no guarantees, though; if it occurs, severe winds would be the biggest risk.
There is another possibility of some showers and storms Wednesday and maybe again on Father's Day.
* Today – Hi 76 Lo 54 – Showers and maybe a storm (90%)
* Tuesday – Hi 79 Lo 56 – Sunny
* Wednesday – Hi 77 Lo 54 – Chance of Showers and storms (40%)
* Thursday – Hi 83 Lo 58 – Sunny
* Friday – Hi 84 Lo 57 – Sunny
* Saturday – Hi 84 Lo 61 – Sunny
* Sunday – Hi 84 Lo 55 – Chance of showers and storms (50%)
The long-range shows a chance of slightly below normal temperatures and slightly above normal precipitation! We can hope!
Have an awesome week, everyone!
(Attached is the NWS outlook for total rain today through Thursday evening! NOT MUCH)

Friday, June 9th Loudoun Weather Outlook

6/9/2023 – The air quality is better today. Still Code Orange at times so we are in that alert. We do have a chance of much needed showers and storms today, but not as widespread as we really need. We will clear the air quality and be nice tomorrow and hot on Sunday. Better rain chances Monday and Tuesday! I do get worried that the forecast will turn drier as we get closer to the time period. The weather in the long run looks about normal to slightly cooler than normal. Rain chances look like a normal threat.
Attached is the outlook for rainfall through the next 5 days, but Saturday and Sunday look dry. Also, these amounts have come down since the original forecast the last few days.
Highs and forecasts:
Today – 73 — Afternoon storms possible (40%)
Saturday – 83
Sunday – 88
Monday – 83 – Showers and storms likely (90%)
Tuesday – 84 – Clear
Wednesday – 82 – Chance of showers (30%)
Thursday – 84 –   Chance of showers (30%)
Have an awesome weekend everyone!

Loudoun County Weather Outlook for Sunday, April 30, 2023

A few changes. We will likely see more rain this afternoon, but there was a slight shift east to the Low, so we will end up with between 1 and 2 inches of rain, and thunderstorms seem less likely this afternoon (We did have some earlier today). We could still see some lightning, but I am not convinced.
With the cold pool of air aloft, more showers and cloudy days are ahead with a few showers.
Later in the week, it looks really nice!
