Loudoun County Weather Outlook for Friday, August 30, 2024

8/20/2024 – Cloudy day ahead which will keep temps down, but humidity high.
I saw reports of the most significant hail of 2.5 inches in Sterling! That is incredible! The radar showed explosive development, which meant we had very strong updrafts yesterday, which also threw rain way up in the atmosphere and froze it and then kept that ice ball up in the air for a long time and added layer after layer of ice before they were finally heavy enough to fall because the updrafts could not keep them in the air. It is very rare for this area to see hail that big!
Tomorrow's rain chances dropped to 50% but should increase slightly. We have a slight risk for severe weather TOMORROW (2 out of 5). Severe wind will be the highest risk, and there may be some hail. I will keep watch.  The total rain outlook is not very wet, but any storm can drop more than the general forecast.
Another severe threat may occur on Sunday.
Then we cool down and turn drier!
The forecast:
Today: Hi 75 🌦️30% Lo 69 🌦️30% – Patchy drizzle and fog in the morning, with scattered showers and thunderstorms developing later. Mostly cloudy throughout the day and night.
Saturday: Hi 87 🌦️50% Lo 70 🌦️50% – A mix of sun and clouds with a chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon and overnight. There is a Slight Risk of Severe!
Sunday: Hi 86 🌦️40% Lo 63 🌙30% – Partly sunny with a chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Clearing somewhat overnight.
Labor Day: Hi 78 ☀️ Lo 52 🌙 – Sunny and clear.
Tuesday: Hi 75 ☀️ Lo 53 🌤️ – Sunny during the day, becoming partly cloudy at night.
Wednesday: Hi 77 🌤️ Lo 55 🌤️ – Mostly sunny, with some clouds at night.
Thursday: Hi 77 🌤️ Lo 55 🌙 – Mostly sunny and clear.

Loudoun County Weather Outlook for Thursday, August 29, 2024

Due to the humidity, it will still feel hot today. Heat index values could approach the low 100s. We have a high chance of rain today! Some rain totals could be in the 1 to 2-inch range, though the higher amounts will be localized. Due to this, we have a slight risk of localized flash flooding.

We also have a marginal (1 out of a scale of 5) for a severe storm today, with the most significant risk being strong winds.

More rain chances tomorrow and likely on Saturday.

We will see cooler temperatures next week, but we will also enter an extended period of dry conditions, which is not good for the persistent drought.
