Loudoun County Weather Outlook for Thursday, September 19, 2024

Talking about some wide ranges in rain totals. Some saw over an inch, and others under a quarter of an inch. Some rain chances have entered the forecast, but not strong chances. At least it is not all dry. The weekend still looks good, but a stray shower or storm could hit on Saturday.

I've attached the 7-day outlook for rain.

The Drought Monitor was just released, and we remain in a moderate drought.

Today: Hi 78 🌦️20% Lo 58 🌙 – Isolated morning showers, mostly cloudy, becoming partly cloudy by night with light winds

Friday: Hi 82 ☀️ Lo 58 🌙 – Sunny and mostly clear with light winds

Saturday: Hi 80 🌤️🌧️20% Lo 60 🌩️🌧️20% – Mostly sunny with a slight chance of afternoon showers, becoming mostly cloudy with a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms at night

Sunday: Hi 74 🌤️ Lo 58 ☁️ – Partly sunny with mostly cloudy skies overnight

Monday: Hi 70 🌤️ Lo 58 🌧️30% – Partly sunny, with a chance of showers later at night

Loudoun County Weather Outlook for Wednesday, September 18, 2024

Some helpful rains fell overnight and this morning, but it was definitely in line with the lighter overall models. We may see another quarter of an inch today if we get into some more showers, but the precipitation is not looking uniform.

The attached rain forecast is a bit generous in some areas, I believe, as a lot of the rain has already fallen for today.

Some showers possible tonight into tomorrow night and then we are back into dry conditions. Temps look nice but will likely warm back up later next week. Rain chances are average to slightly above in the long range.

The forecast:
Today: Hi 71 ⛈️80% Lo 61 🌧️30% – Showers and thunderstorms likely before the afternoon with patchy fog, scattered thunderstorms later.

Thursday: Hi 78 🌥️🌧️30% Lo 59 🌧️20% – Mostly cloudy with a chance of showers and patchy morning fog, clearing up by evening.

Friday: Hi 79 ☀️ Lo 59 🌙 – Mostly sunny and partly cloudy in the evening.

Saturday: Hi 77 ☀️ Lo 58 🌙 – Mostly sunny, becoming partly cloudy overnight.

Sunday: Hi 73 ☀️ Lo 53 🌙 – Mostly sunny with clear skies later.

Monday: Hi 71 ☀️ Lo 54 🌙 – Sunny during the day, partly cloudy at night.

Tuesday: Hi 72 🌤️ Lo 54 🌙 – Partly sunny skies throughout the day.

Loudoun County Weather Outlook for Tueday, September 17, 2024

***** BEAUTIFUL WEEKEND ALERT ******

Talking about a rug pull on any chance of significant rain! I AM SORRY! Although we could see some heavier local amounts, the most amount of rain people may see from this event is three-quarters of an inch. If you happen to get a thunderstorm, there may be more. Many may see a quarter of an inch.. or less?? – The blocking high to the north was stronger than expected, and the remnants of the tropical system are not far enough north or strong enough to help overcome that drier air. I do not control the weather or the models, but seeing systems behave differently than forecasted is just not fun. I know plans were changed due to these forecasts! I put down grass seed in the hopes of some good rain, too! 🙁

It now looks dry Friday through Sunday with pleasant temperatures.

The long range shows warmer-than-normal temperatures and a chance of some above-average rainfall. We can hope for rain!

Loudoun County Weather Outlook for Monday, September 16, 2024

A wet week will start overnight tonight… but — HOW MUCH RAIN?
Late last evening, I was saying I saw a pullback in the rain. A half inch to maybe 1.5 inches is possible, but now it looks like we will have around three-quarters of an inch on average. THIS FORECAST MAY either get wetter or drier based on the models. The challenge is a blocking high to the north. That high pressure stops the system's northward movement from the south. It looked like it would be weaker for a few days, allowing a lot more rain, but the trend is reversing. 
Attached is the latest from the Weather Prediction Center – but this has been fluctuating and definitely trending drier than its wetter outlooks.
70s for the week. We may be able to clear by Saturday, but Sunday is looking beautiful.

Tuesday: Hi 74 🌧️ 60% Lo 65 ⛈️ 70% – Showers likely in the afternoon, with thunderstorms possible overnight

Loudoun County Weather Outlook for Sunday, September 15, 2024

The rain chances have increased and now we will struggle a bit to get the amounts. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain this week seems likely. There is a strong possibility we will see more than that, but between 1 and 3 inches is the best forecast at this point, with the idea that around 2 inches is the area-wide average. 
We could see more rain as tropical moisture is involved, which could result in some heavy downpours. 
The heaviest rain should fall on Tuesday and Wednesday, but the forecast beyond that is a bit unknown. 
It is possible that some showers could be here into next weekend. Temperatures will be held in the low to mid 70s for the most part. 
This drought needs an extended few days of rain!
